The technology of mapping continues to evolve and become even more impressive each day. This video depicts how the sea floor mapping program at Cal State University in Monterey California is using sonar technology to effectively map the ocean floor and model it as never seen before. Enjoy!!!
Very cool! My favorite GIS project ever was the NIMA Digital Nautical Charts.
ReplyDeleteYes, I agree the NIMA nautical chart program is quite amazing. The KQED program I think can build from that program to not only be able to show navigation but help us better understand the entire ecosystem and physical world of the oceans. I still find it amazing that we know less about the depths of our oceans than we do the surface of the moon. I am very happy to see both of these programs utilizing GIS and spatial technologies to improve our understanding of the oceans around us.
